Friends, the polemic is not against love. Love is the McGuffin. The polemic is against capitalism!

I read Jia Tolentino’s brilliant Trick Mirror last year, and she referenced this book. She said that the author put forth that ‘adultery was the sit-down strike against the love takes work ethic’. I decided to pick this up.

This book was a delicious bite sized 200 pages of ideas mixing the Frankfurt School, the Romantics, patrilineal property inheritance, and the very human action of flirting, ‘a way of being suspended between having and not having’ into a perfect Valentines bon bon.
